The administration of US President Donald Trump has intensified its crackdown on illegal immigration, placing 3,690 Nigerians at risk of deportation.
According to data from the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), as of November 24, 2024, a total of 1,445,549 non-US citizens face deportation.

Among them, 252,044 are from Mexico, while 203,822 are from El Salvador, making these the most affected countries. Nigeria also ranks among the nations with a significant number of individuals facing removal.
ICE, responsible for maintaining US national security and tackling cross-border crime, has increased efforts to remove undocumented immigrants. Reports indicate that Nigerians, alongside other African nationals, could be among the next targets of the deportation wave.
Since assuming office, Trump has pursued a hardline approach to immigration, signing executive orders aimed at tightening border controls and restricting pathways to citizenship.
Key measures implemented under his administration include ending birthright citizenship for children of undocumented immigrants and deploying additional troops to the US-Mexico border.
Meanwhile, the Federal Government of Nigeria repatriated 828 foreigners to their home countries in 2024, according to Interior Minister Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo. The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) carried out the repatriation, although the specific reasons for their deportation were not disclosed.
