Soyinka said he was unaware of any actions that could have led to the revocation. The US Consulate notified him of the decision in a letter dated October 23, 2025, citing US Department of State regulations. He added that he has no criminal record or history of misconduct that could justify such action.
Reacting to the development, Soyinka asked those anticipating his visit in the US to cancel their plans. He also expressed bewilderment at the revocation, noting that he has always maintained respectful relations with US diplomats. Soyinka recalled being invited previously for a visa re-interview, which he declined due to concerns over the process.
