A lecturer in the Department of Theatre Arts and Film Studies at Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Dr. Chukwudi Okoye, has narrated how he was physically attacked by a student, identified as Goddy Mbakwe Precious, a third-year History and International Studies undergraduate.

The altercation occurred within the Faculty of Arts when Okoye encountered the student recording a dance video in the corridor. As he attempted to pass, he tapped her on the shoulder and greeted her, but she reacted angrily, accusing him of hitting her.

The situation escalated as the student reportedly grabbed Okoye’s clothes, prompting intervention from bystanders.

A video of the incident, which later surfaced online, showed the student lashing out at the lecturer.

According to Okoye, he was heading to his office when he saw the student filming in the corridor. Since the passage was narrow, he made his way through and continued walking. After hearing her remark, he turned back to confirm whether she was a student.

He asked her to delete the video, but she refused. When he attempted to take her phone, she reacted aggressively, leading to the confrontation. He stated that he would leave further action to the university’s committee.

Following the incident, the university’s Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Joseph Ikechebelu, ordered a full-scale investigation. In a statement issued by the Acting Head of Information, Public Relations, and Protocol, Njelita Louis, the institution assured the public that appropriate actions would be taken.
