Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, says his administration has secured fresh opportunities for school feeding, healthcare support, and foreign investments following Kano’s participation at the 80th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA80) in New York.

In a statement issued on Wednesday by his spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, Governor Yusuf explained that he was represented at the high-level gathering by the Emir of Kano, Khalifah Muhammad Sanusi II, and the Director-General of the Kano State Investment Promotion Agency (Kan-Invest), Muhammad Naziru Halliru.

At the sidelines of the event, Emir Sanusi held talks with Kenyan entrepreneur Wawira Njiru, founder of Food4Education, on possible collaboration to strengthen school feeding programmes in Kano through access to African Development Bank (AfDB) funding.

The delegation also took part in major global forums, including the Global Compact: Unstoppable Africa, the Cavista Holdings/Corporate Council on Africa Summit, and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation’s Goalkeepers Event. At these meetings, Kano presented its vast investment opportunities while highlighting key priorities in healthcare and human development to attract international partners.

Governor Yusuf noted that the meetings underscored his administration’s vision of positioning Kano as a leading investment hub in Nigeria.

“Our investment agenda is already yielding results. By building global partnerships, we are strengthening our economy, improving the wellbeing of our people, and laying the foundation for sustainable development,” the governor said.

He further disclosed plans to launch a five-year multi-sectoral investment strategy designed to attract investors, boost state revenue, and create more opportunities for residents.

The governor commended the Emir of Kano for what he described as a distinguished representation of the state at UNGA80, stressing that the Emir’s international influence gave weight to Kano’s engagements on the world stage.
