The United States (U.S.) would deploy an additional 2,500 troops to Poland as part of transferring soldiers to Eastern Europe, Pawel Soloch, the head of the Polish National Security Bureau, said on Wednesday.

Some 5,500 U.S. soldiers were currently stationed in Poland.

“We rely on American soldiers, and such negotiations have been held.

“The U.S. has already declared the other day the transfer of more than 8,000-8,500 soldiers for all of Eastern Europe.

“It looks like we will have about 2,500 additional soldiers,’’ Soloch told Polskie Radio.

The U.S. and European NATO countries were working out the deployment of large American contingents to Eastern Europe, Soloch noted.

“I want to remind you that there are two plans. The first one is the physical presence of American soldiers, especially in Poland.

“The second one is the introduction of a mechanism, the creation of opportunities for the deployment of a significant number of troops if it becomes necessary.

“The work on this issue is in progress,’’ Soloch said.

On Friday, U.S. President Joe Biden, said he would soon order the deployment of a small American contingent of 8,500 soldiers to Eastern Europe.

The Pentagon also did not rule out sending troops on the basis of bilateral agreements to other countries.
