SP Wasiu Abiodun, the Police Public Relations Officer in Niger, confirmed the tragic news while addressing journalists in Minna on Monday. He disclosed that the incident took place on Sunday when a mining pit collapsed, trapping the victims, Buhari Kano and Mallam Tasiu.

Abiodun stated that local residents and police officers acted swiftly to launch a rescue operation. Despite their efforts, the victims were found dead, and their bodies were transported to Zumba Hospital for further examination.

Preliminary investigations suggest that the miners were operating illegally at the site when the collapse occurred. The police have initiated an in-depth investigation to understand the exact cause of the incident and ensure all aspects are thoroughly examined.

Abiodun reassured the public that the investigation will be conducted with the utmost scrutiny to uncover the full circumstances surrounding the tragedy.
