A notorious bandit leader, Bello Turji, has accused two former northern governors of being responsible for the ongoing insecurity in the region.

In a video that circulated widely on Sunday, Turji alleged that past administrations in Zamfara and Sokoto laid the foundation for the persistent unrest.
Turji claimed he participated in several peace talks with Zamfara’s government during the tenure of a former governor but denied receiving the reported N30 million or any other incentives for engaging in the negotiations. Efforts to reach the ex-governors for comment were unsuccessful at the time of publication.
Sources close to the former governors dismissed Turji’s allegations as baseless, arguing that statements from a known terrorist should not be taken seriously. They described his claims as an attempt to portray himself as a victim rather than the truth.
Turji also accused previous administrations of arming local militias known as “Yan Banga,” which he said targeted Fulani communities and worsened the security situation. He called for the arrest and investigation of the former governors over their alleged role in the crisis, holding them responsible for the tragedies that have affected Zamfara and Sokoto.
