The arrest was disclosed in a statement issued on Monday by the NSCDC Kano Command’s Public Relations Officer, SC Ibrahim Idris Abdullahi. According to the statement, the suspects had been using fake identities to deceive top officials and extort money.

The suspects, identified as 43-year-old Muhammad Sarari from Goron Dutse in Dala Local Government Area and 32-year-old Madaki Zaharaddeen from Hotoro in Nassarawa Local Government Area, were arrested by NSCDC operatives after they attempted to extort a senior staff member of a well-known television station in the state.

According to the NSCDC spokesperson in Kano, the suspects had been visiting various ministries and government agencies, using false identities to threaten officials and demand money. Their luck ran out when they entered the media house and attempted to coerce a top management staff. Officers from the NSCDC’s Tarauni divisional office intervened and arrested them.

During interrogation, both suspects reportedly confessed to the crime. One of them was found in possession of a fake NSCDC identity card and an inner vest bearing the corps’ logo.

The NSCDC confirmed that investigations have been concluded, and the suspects will be charged with impersonation, conspiracy, intimidation, and extortion.
