In a statement released by Edward Akintara, Manager of Corporate Communications, PR, and Marketing, the AI news anchors are designed to serve a diverse audience across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones, covering a population of over 240 million people, half of whom are under the age of 45.

Akintara explained that the innovation is aimed at “complementing and assisting human capital assets” while supporting the company’s strategic goal of expanding its news coverage and integrating advanced technology to improve content delivery across its networks.

TVC addressed potential concerns about misinformation and the rise of deepfakes, assuring the public that it has put in place strong verification systems, including watermarking, and is working with industry experts to mitigate risks. The organization also emphasized its commitment to upholding regulatory and ethical standards, cultural sensitivity, and responsible language use.

Speaking on the development, TVC’s CEO, Victoria Ajayi, said, “We are excited to be at the forefront of this innovation in Nigeria’s broadcast industry. Our AI news anchors will enable us take our news coverage to the next level.”

Ajayi noted that the AI anchors are not intended to replace human journalists. Instead, she stressed that all content delivered by the AI presenters will be curated, verified, and approved by a team of experienced journalists and editors.
