Senator Ali Ndume of Borno South has raised concerns over the imbalance in President Bola Tinubu’s political appointments, stating that they do not reflect Nigeria’s federal character as outlined in the constitution.
Appearing on Arise TV’s Prime Time, Ndume pointed out that the constitution mandates political appointments to be inclusive and representative of the country’s diverse regions. He argued that the current pattern of appointments fails to meet this requirement and called for immediate corrections to prevent further marginalization.
Ndume explained that his observations are part of his legislative responsibility to provide oversight and ensure that the government adheres to constitutional provisions. He maintained that his remarks are not a personal attack on the president but a necessary step to promote fairness and national unity.
The senator also expressed concern that his stance may provoke backlash from supporters of President Tinubu. He anticipates personal attacks from those who may choose to defend the appointments rather than engage with the constitutional issues raised.
Despite the expected criticism, Ndume emphasized the need for balanced representation in government to maintain national cohesion and uphold democratic values.
