Musa, a former Chief of Defence Staff, took the oath of office on Thursday at the State House in Abuja, marking his formal resumption after securing Senate confirmation during a lengthy screening on Wednesday.
The Senate had grilled the retired general for nearly five hours over recent security lapses, including the withdrawal of troops from Government Comprehensive Girls Secondary School, Maga, in Kebbi State, shortly before the abduction of schoolgirls on November 17.
During the screening, Musa assured lawmakers that he would launch a full-scale investigation into the troop withdrawal as soon as he takes charge. He also pledged to probe the killing of Brigade Commander Brigadier General Musa Uba in Borno State and other attacks targeting senior military officers.
His appointment comes after the resignation of former Defence Minister Mohammed Badaru, who stepped down reportedly due to health reasons.
