President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved a reshuffle of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) following the confirmation of new board members by the Senate on December 16, 2025.
The development was confirmed in a statement issued by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.

According to the statement, Mulisiu Olalekan Oseni has been appointed as Chairman of NERC, while Yusuf Ali will serve as Vice-Chairman. Other members of the commission include Nathan Rogers Shatti, Dafe Akpeneye, Aisha Mahmud Kanti Bello, Dr Chidi Ike and Dr Fouad Animashaun.
Onanuga explained that Oseni first joined NERC as a Commissioner in January 2017 and later rose to the position of Vice-Chairman before assuming office as Chairman on December 1, 2025. His appointment, in line with the provisions of the Electricity Act 2023, is for a single tenure of ten years.
Yusuf Ali, who was appointed as a Commissioner in February 2022, also assumed office as Vice-Chairman on December 1, 2025. He is expected to serve in that capacity for the remainder of his first term.
The statement further outlined the status of other commissioners on the board. Nathan Rogers Shatti and Dafe Akpeneye are serving their second terms, having been initially appointed in January 2017. Aisha Mahmud Kanti Bello is also on her second term, following her first appointment in December 2020. Dr Chidi Ike, appointed in February 2022, is midway through his first term, while Dr Fouad Animashaun began his first term in December 2025.
Dr Animashaun brings extensive experience to the commission, having previously served as Executive Commissioner and Chief Executive Officer of the Lagos State Electricity Regulatory Commission, as well as an energy economist.
President Tinubu has tasked the newly constituted board with advancing and consolidating ongoing reforms in the power sector, in line with the objectives of the Electricity Act 2023.
