The team was received at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, where the President honoured them with the national award of Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON).
During the reception, President Tinubu also approved several rewards to appreciate their outstanding performance. Each of the 24 players and the 11 technical crew members was gifted a three-bedroom apartment in the Renewed Hope Estate in Abuja.
In addition, the President approved a cash reward equivalent to $100,000 for each player and $50,000 for every member of the coaching crew.
The Nigerian Governors Forum also showed their support by contributing gifts amounting to 10% of the rewards to each team member.
President Tinubu, accompanied by First Lady Oluremi Tinubu, expressed admiration for the team’s resilience and achievement. He humorously noted that he avoided watching the final match live to save himself from the stress, saying he didn’t want to risk raising his blood pressure due to the tension of the game.
