The appointment was announced on Friday in a statement by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser on Information and Strategy to the President. Onanuga stated that Jega’s new role is aimed at advancing reforms in the livestock sector to support national development.

Jega, a former Vice Chancellor of Bayero University, Kano, has played a key role in shaping policies in the sector. He co-chaired the Presidential Livestock Committee alongside Tinubu, contributing to recommendations that led to the creation of the Livestock Ministry, now overseen by a minister.

Beyond his work in electoral and academic circles, Jega is a member of the International Elections Advisory Council and serves as pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council of Sa’adatu Rimi University of Education in Kano State. He previously led INEC from 2010 to 2015, overseeing Nigeria’s 2015 general elections.
