President Bola Tinubu has officially constituted new governing boards for three major agencies: the National Agricultural Development Fund (NADF), the Bank of Agriculture (BOA), and the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC).

According to a statement released on Friday by the president’s spokesman, Bayo Onanuga, Senator Umaru Tanko Al-Makura, who was appointed in July, will continue as chairman of the UBEC board. The other members include Uchendu Ikechi Mbaegbulem representing the South-East, Gift Ngo for the South-South, Ibiwunmi Akinnola for the South-West, Dr Meiro Mandara for the North-East, Dr Abdu Imam Saulawa for the North-West, and Professor Paul Ibukun-Olu Bolorunduro for the North-Central. All members are set to serve an initial term of four years.

For the Bank of Agriculture, Tinubu confirmed Muhammad Babangida as chairman and Ayo Sotinrin as managing director, roles that were previously announced. The BOA board also features three executive directors: Fatima Garba (Corporate Services, Sokoto), Ka’amuna Ibrahim Khadi (Risk Management and Strategy, Borno), and Hakeem Oluwatosin Salami (Operations, Kwara). Five non-executive directors were appointed to represent each geopolitical zone: Aminu Malami Mohammed (North-East), Charles Amuchienwa (South-East), Oladejo Odunuga (South-West), Rabiu Idris Funtua (North-West), and Kochi Donald Iorgyer (North-Central).

Regarding the NADF, Muhammad Abu Ibrahim was appointed executive secretary and CEO in October 2023. The board is now complete with Mallam Bello Maccido, former pioneer chairman of FBNQuest Merchant Bank Limited, as chairman representing the North-West. Other members are Dr Nelson Henry Essien (Akwa Ibom/South-South), Amina Ahmed Habib (Jigawa/North-West), Akinyinka Olufela Akinnola (South-West), Hassan Tanimu Musa Usman (North-East), Lufer Samson Orkar (North-Central), and Felix Achibiri (South-East).

The appointments highlight the administration’s focus on bringing experienced professionals from across Nigeria into leadership roles within critical agricultural and educational institutions.
