A joint security patrol in Benue State came under attack on Monday when suspected herdsmen ambushed the team along the Daudu-Uikohol Expressway in Guma Local Government Area, leaving three officers missing and two others injured.

The incident occurred at about 2:19 p.m. while the patrol team, made up of personnel from the police, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), and local vigilantes, was on a routine operation. The team had sighted burning houses in the area and moved in to investigate when they were suddenly ambushed.

Two officers – Police Inspector Ochepo Benjamin and an NSCDC operative sustained gunshot wounds and are currently receiving treatment at the Benue State University Teaching Hospital.

The missing personnel include Police Inspector Muhammed Abdullahi and two NSCDC officers. Security forces have since launched a search operation to locate them.
