Suspected terrorists launched a deadly attack on villages near Birnin Dede in Kebbi State, killing 13 people and setting seven villages ablaze in what appears to be a reprisal strike.

The assault, which occurred on Sunday in Arewa Local Government Area, was reportedly carried out in retaliation for the recent killing of a terrorist leader, Maigemu, by security forces in the state.

A local resident, Malam Umar, said the attackers burned down multiple villages, leaving only one untouched due to military presence. “We seek protection from Allah against this dreaded group,” he said.

The attack follows a security operation approved by Governor Nasir Idris, which led to the elimination of Maigemu, a notorious terrorist kingpin. The operation was part of the state’s efforts to combat violent activities.
