The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has vowed to shut down telecommunications operations nationwide from March 1, 2025, if telecom companies fail to reverse the recent 50% tariff hike by February 29.

In a statement signed by NLC President Joe Ajaero and General Secretary Emma Ugboaja, the union described the tariff increase as exploitative and accused telecom firms of violating an agreement with the Federal Government and the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC).
To resist the hike, the NLC has directed workers and the public to boycott MTN, Airtel, and Glo services daily from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM, starting Thursday, February 13, until the end of the month.
It also urged citizens to halt data purchases and instructed its state councils and affiliate unions to mobilize and sensitize Nigerians.
The union criticized the government for failing to curb corporate exploitation and warned against policies that could worsen the financial strain on Nigerians, particularly through the proposed Tax Reform Bills.
