Aminu Tambuwal has stepped down for Atiku Abubakar at the ongoing PDP convention in Abuja.

The Sokoto governor announced his decision at the convention ground as delegates were about to commence voting, saying he wants to put the country first.

Mr Tambuwal’s decision has now placed Mr Abubakar as the favourite to clinch the presidential ticket of the main opposition party.

EFCC officials storm venue of PDP national convention

Mr Abubakar quickly welcomed the move, writing on Twitter: “Thank you, H.E @AWTambuwal, for your spirited campaign. I look forward to working with you as we unite our party and our country. -AA”

Rivers Governor Nyesom Wike, another major contender, has expressed his intention to support whoever emerges entirely.
