The assault, which occurred in the early hours of Friday, sparked heavy gunfire between the insurgents and security forces stationed in the area.

According to information obtained by Daily Trust, the attack led to the temporary closure of the Ngamdu road by the military as part of efforts to contain the situation. The road was later reopened around 11:20 a.m. after normalcy was restored.

Eyewitnesses reported that the insurgents initially overpowered the soldiers, leading to casualties. Some personnel were said to have sustained injuries and were taken to a nearby hospital, while others reportedly died in the attack.

A security source, however, confirmed that troops eventually repelled the assault, inflicting significant losses on the insurgents.

As of press time, the Nigerian military has not issued an official statement regarding the incident.
