The Supreme Court has dismissed a lawsuit filed against the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to compel compliance with the zoning and rotational arrangement in advance of the 2023 presidential election.

The nation’s highest court dismissed the suit on Friday, in a unanimous ruling delivered by Justice Adamu Jauro, citing a lack of jurisdiction to hear it.

Hon Cosmos Ndukwe, a former Deputy Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly and a PDP Presidential aspirant, had gone to court to institute the suit against his party, requesting an order compelling it to maintain the party’s zoning and rotatory policy.

Ndukwe explicitly requested that the court issue an order compelling the PDP to zone the nomination of its presidential candidate to the country’s South East geopolitical zone.

However, Justice Jauro ruled that the suit was not justiciable because the nomination of candidates for election is a matter between political parties.
