The Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar III, has dismissed allegations of genocide against Christians in Nigeria, describing such claims as baseless and aimed at causing division among citizens.

He made the statement on Tuesday during the 2025 General Assembly of the Northern Traditional Rulers Council held in Birnin Kebbi, Kebbi State. The monarch said there was no evidence of genocide in any part of the country and challenged anyone with proof to present it publicly.
The Sultan reaffirmed that Christians and Muslims have lived together peacefully for centuries in Nigeria and that no faith group has been specifically targeted. According to him, insecurity affects all Nigerians, regardless of religion, as both Christians and Muslims have suffered from the impact of banditry, insurgency, and other violent crimes.
He also cautioned against the misuse of social media platforms to spread false narratives and propaganda, which he said often fuel unnecessary tension and mistrust among communities.
Calling for responsible communication and evidence-based claims, the Sultan urged individuals and international observers spreading unfounded allegations to provide verifiable facts. He further commended Nigeria’s security agencies for their sacrifices in restoring peace and called on citizens to support their efforts in preserving national unity.
