The Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, has declared Saturday, March 1, 2025, as the first day of Ramadan 1446 AH after the sighting of the new moon in some locations across Nigeria.

Announcing the decision on Friday, the Sultan, who serves as the President-General of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), confirmed that credible reports of the moon sighting were received from various parts of the country.
“Reports of the sighting of the new crescent have been received from various leaders in the country, and their information has been verified and authenticated,” he stated.
With this declaration, Muslims across Nigeria will commence fasting on Saturday as prescribed in Islam
