Musa Ashoms, the commissioner for information and communication in Plateau, has reported a devastating incident in Jos, the state capital, where approximately 200 students have been trapped under the rubble of Saints Academy.
The tragic collapse occurred on Friday morning at the two-story school building located in the Busa Buji community of Jos, north LGA, during the ongoing third term examinations.
First responders, alongside police officers and distressed parents, are currently engaged in a desperate search-and-rescue mission amidst the debris, hoping to extricate the victims.

According to Ashoms, the school, with an estimated population of 400, suffered the collapse of a section accommodating around 200 students. He highlighted that the collapsed structure was situated in a waterlogged area, failing to meet construction standards.
In a statement to journalists, Ashoms acknowledged the severity of the situation: “The collapsed school building has resulted in casualties, and injured students are still being evacuated to hospitals. We cannot, however, ascertain the exact number of casualties until the evacuation is completed.”
He commended the efforts of emergency workers, emphasizing ongoing rescue operations. Governor Caleb Mutfwang has directed medical personnel to prioritize saving lives without any financial considerations, underscoring the urgency of the crisis.
Ashoms also referenced Order 003 of the state government, aimed at enforcing the greater Jos master plan, suggesting that the incident underscores the critical need for strict adherence to building regulations.
