Yetunde had attended a naming ceremony on February 10, 2025, but suddenly left after receiving a phone call, according to eyewitnesses. When she failed to return home, her father, Ibrahim Lawal, reported her missing the following day, leading to a police investigation.
Authorities traced her last phone call to the suspect’s residence in the Ofa garage area of Ilorin.
Despite initially denying involvement, a search of his home led to the shocking discovery of Yetunde’s dismembered remains, reportedly stored in a bowl. Investigators also recovered tools suspected to have been used in the act.
The suspect allegedly confessed to meeting Yetunde on Facebook and inviting her over, claiming she died from an asthma attack. However, further searches raised suspicions that this may not have been an isolated crime.
Confirming the incident, Kwara State Police Command spokesperson SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi stated that the suspect has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further questioning. She assured that the police are committed to ensuring justice is served.
