The incident happened about two kilometres from Ringim town, where residents had gathered to welcome Governor Umar Namadi for the 15th edition of the Citizens and Government Engagement Programme.
Eyewitnesses said the Golf Volkswagen, with registration number FKJ 102 JB, was speeding when the driver swerved to avoid a pothole before veering off the road and ploughing into the crowd.
Personnel of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) and the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) rushed the victims to Ringim General Hospital. No deaths were recorded, though those affected sustained varying degrees of injuries.
NSCDC spokesperson ASC Badruddeen Tijjani said the command had begun an investigation into the incident and urged motorists to drive cautiously, especially in areas with potholes.
