Two soldiers attached to the Special Task Force (STF) Operation Safe Haven in Jos, Plateau State, have been arrested in connection with the killing of a police officer in Bauchi State.
The deceased officer, Constable Ukasha Muhammed (F/No 533164), was reportedly shot dead during a confrontation at a checkpoint in the Bayan Gari area of Bauchi metropolis on October 10, 2025.

According to the Bauchi State Police Command’s spokesperson, CSP Mohammed Ahmed Wakil, the incident occurred around 9 p.m. when a police patrol team led by Inspector Hussaini Samaila stopped vehicles and questioned motorcycle riders in the area.
Wakil explained that the patrol team encountered resistance from a soldier who refused to cooperate with the officers, leading to a heated altercation. The soldier later returned with his colleagues and allegedly opened fire, hitting Constable Muhammed in the chest.
The suspects, identified as Private Yakubu Yahuza and Private Godspower Gabriel, both serving with Operation Safe Haven, were arrested following prompt reinforcement by the police.
The Command’s spokesperson added that the remains of the slain constable have been deposited in the mortuary, while a team of experienced detectives has commenced a full investigation to ensure that justice is served.
He assured the public that the Bauchi Police Command remains committed to maintaining peace and ensuring accountability in the matter.
