The incident, which occurred on Monday night around 8:30 p.m., involved seven vehicles, including tricycles, private cars, and trucks. According to the Acting Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Kogi, Mr. Samuel Ogundayo, the crash happened when a truck lost control while trying to ascend Okunchi hill and rolled backward.

The truck reportedly crushed two tricycles, three cars, and collided with another truck, leading to what FRSC described as a “tragic and most unfortunate” accident.

FRSC personnel swiftly responded to the scene, evacuating the injured victims to the Referral Hospital in Okene, while the corpses of the deceased were taken to the Okene General Hospital mortuary.

Ogundayo urged motorists to always obey traffic laws and remain cautious, especially when driving on hilly terrains where brake failure can easily cause disasters. He noted that the FRSC, along with other security agencies, worked efficiently to clear the resulting gridlock and restore normal traffic flow.
