The Senator representing Kano Central Senatorial District, Sen. Ibrahim Shekarau, has constructed 100 solar boreholes, as part of efforts to provide potable water for his constituents.

The senator made this known on Tuesday while inaugurating some of the boreholes on Friday in Kano.

Shekarau, also a former Governor of Kano State, said that N190 million was spent on the projects.

He further said that the boreholes were provided in some health facilities, abattoirs and rural communities across his senatorial district.

The lawmaker added that the measure would assist in addressing shortage of drinking water and enhance personal hygiene among residents of the senatorial district.

He listed the areas provided with boreholes to include: Sabo Bakin Zuwo Maternity Hospital in Jakara City Centre, Shaikh Muhammad Jidda Hospital and State Infectious Disease Hospital, among others.

“It was the constituency project fund that was used to build several solar boreholes, mainly at hospitals, to help curtail the systematic spread of infectious diseases mostly coming from contaminated water.

“Our main target area is Kano Municipal, where we will construct solar boreholes because of its densely-populated nature. No fewer than two million people will benefit from the project”, he said.

One of the constituents, Abdulrahman Musa, a meat seller, commended the construction of the projects and thanked the senator for the kind gesture. (NAN)
