Speaking in a BBC Hausa interview, Gumi suggested that recent attacks indicate that some armed groups may be receiving support from powerful foreign nations. He pointed out that the trend contradicts earlier signs of improvement, highlighting the Abuja‑Kaduna highway, which had recently become safer for travelers before the resurgence of violence.
The cleric also noted that farmers in Birnin Gwari, Kaduna State, who had previously abandoned their farms due to persistent threats, had begun returning, signaling a temporary period of stability that has been disrupted by renewed attacks.
Gumi called on the Nigerian government to strengthen intelligence operations, enhance diplomatic engagement, and investigate possible external links contributing to the country’s insecurity.
