Speaking at the Women in Parliament session during the Inter-Parliamentary Union meeting in New York on Tuesday, Akpoti-Uduaghan alleged political victimization and intimidation for demanding a transparent investigation into her claims against Akpabio.

She described her recent suspension as unlawful and insisted that she would not apologize, stating that the move was aimed at silencing her. The senator pledged to continue pushing back against what she termed injustice, vowing to collaborate with women’s groups, civil society organizations, and legal teams to challenge the decision.

Akpoti-Uduaghan’s suspension, which took effect on March 6, followed a dispute with Akpabio over a new Senate seating arrangement, which she argued was meant to undermine her. The issue escalated when she accused Akpabio of retaliating against her for rejecting his alleged advances. Consequently, the Senate imposed a six-month suspension on her.
