Deputy Senate President, Senator Barau Jibrin, has unveiled plans to upgrade the sporting facilities at Bayero University Kano (BUK) to a modern standard stadium for the benefit of football enthusiasts in the state.

The senator announced the initiative on Tuesday through a post on his official Facebook page, explaining that Kano deserves more than one standard stadium due to its large number of football clubs and the passion of its youth for the game.

To begin the process, Barau dispatched a delegation led by his Chief of Staff, Professor Muhammad Ibn Abdallah, alongside his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Alhaji Ismail Mudashir, and Special Adviser on Youths and Sports Development, Comrade Kabiru Ado Lakwaya. The team met with BUK’s management to finalize discussions on the project.

BUK Vice Chancellor, Professor Haruna Musa, welcomed the development, noting that it aligns with his own vision for the university. “Coincidentally, this is also part of the blueprint that I submitted to the University Governing Council when I was applying for the position of Vice Chancellor,” he said. He assured the senator of the institution’s readiness to provide full support to ensure the project’s success.

Senator Barau stressed that the investment is a commitment to empowering young people through sports, emphasizing that “nothing is too much for our youths.”

He also recalled the recent promotion of his football team, Barau FC, from the Nigeria National League (NNL) to the Nigeria Premier League (NPFL), noting that the achievement shows the growing need for quality sporting infrastructure in Kano.
