Daily News 24 reports that Senator Barau announced this on his X (formerly Twitter) account after visiting the bereaved families at the At-Taqwa Mosque in Sabon Fegi, Bunkure LGA of Kano State. The victims’ families are from Bunkure, Kibiya, Rano, and Garko LGAs.

Barau was joined by the Minister of State for Housing and Urban Development, Yusuf Abdullahi Ata, the Managing Director of the North West Development Commission (NWDC), Professor Abdullahi Shehu Ma’aji, and other dignitaries.

He assured the families that those responsible for the killings would be brought to justice. He prayed for Allah to grant the deceased Jannatul Firdaus, wished the injured a quick recovery, and vowed to ensure the culprits face the law.

The 16 travellers were lynched in Uromi on Thursday, March 27, 2025, after being mistaken for kidnappers. The victims, mostly Hausa hunters traveling from Port Harcourt to Kano, were stopped by local vigilantes who misinterpreted their hunting guns as a threat. A mob attacked and set their truck on fire before security operatives arrived. Fourteen suspects have been arrested.
