The Nigerian Senate has directed the National Security Adviser (NSA) to investigate false reports suggesting that Senate President Godswill Akpabio experienced a health emergency and was rushed to a hospital in London.

The resolution came on Tuesday during plenary after Senator Titus Zam raised a point of order condemning the spread of misinformation across media platforms. Senator Zam described the reports as “unacceptable” and urged authorities to identify and hold accountable those behind the false claims to prevent similar incidents in the future.
Presiding over the session, Senate President Akpabio expressed concern over the increasing difficulty of regulating media content about public figures. He referred to much of the content on certain platforms as “garbage in, garbage out,” emphasizing the challenges in curbing the circulation of false information.
The directive follows recent online rumours about Akpabio’s alleged collapse and hospitalization, which his aides have consistently dismissed as “fake news.”
