Deputy Senate President, Senator Barau Jibrin, has donated a total of N22 million to the families of 22 athletes who tragically lost their lives in a fatal road accident near Kano.
The donation was made during a condolence visit to the bereaved families, aimed at providing support and solace during this period of profound loss.

The visit took place on Tuesday at the Gwagwarwa Juma’a Mosque in Nasarawa Local Government Area of Kano State. The Chief Imam of Gwagwarwa Juma’a Mosque, Sheikh Adda’u Aliyu, along with the ward heads of Gwagwarwa and Gama, Usman Aliyu and Rabe Isyaku respectively, received the delegation
The athletes died in a tragic accident on Saturday in Dakatsalle town, just a few kilometres from Kano metropolis, while returning from the recently concluded National Sports Festival (NSF) held in Ogun State.
Senator Barau was accompanied by the Minister of State for Housing and Urban Development, Hon Yusuf Abdullahi Ata, Managing Director of the North West Development Commission (NWDC), Professor Abdullahi Shehu Ma’aji, former House of Representatives member Rt. Hon Faruk Lawan, as well as prominent members of the All Progressives Congress (APC), religious leaders, and business personalities.
Prayers were offered during the visit for the peaceful rest of the deceased athletes and for comfort and strength to be granted to their families
