The fire, which broke out in the afternoon, affected the 9th floor of the building. Eyewitnesses attributed the incident to an electrical spark.
Firefighters from the Kano State Fire Service and the Federal Fire Service swiftly intervened, preventing the blaze from spreading further.
Several academic offices, including those of lecturers and the Head of Department in the Information and Communication Technology department, were damaged.
The incident caused panic but no casualties were reported apart from the affected security guard, who was taken to the university clinic for treatment.
Vice-Chancellor Mukhtar Atiku Kurawa confirmed that while the fire had been put out, the extent of the damage was yet to be determined.
He noted that the university enforces a policy requiring all electrical appliances to be turned off before staff and students leave to enhance safety, conserve energy, and reduce costs.
