The Social Democratic Party (SDP) has suspended its National Chairman, Shehu Gabam, following accusations of financial impropriety.
Also suspended were the party’s National Auditor, Nnadi Clarkson, and National Youth Leader, Chukwuma Uchechukwu, for their alleged involvement in the mismanagement of party funds.

In a statement signed by the National Publicity Secretary, Araba Rufus Aiyenigba, the party disclosed that the decision came after the National Working Committee (NWC) reviewed evidence of unauthorized financial transactions, embezzlement, and diversion of funds for personal use.
Aiyenigba said the action was taken to protect the party’s integrity and allow for an unhindered investigation. “This suspension is necessary to pave the way for a comprehensive probe into the allegations,” he stated.
The SDP has established an interim panel to audit its finances and recommend appropriate disciplinary or legal action.
In the meantime, the Deputy National Chairman (North), Dr. Sadiq Umar Abubakar, has assumed leadership as Acting National Chairman in accordance with the party’s constitution.
The party confirmed that the decision has been formally communicated to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and other relevant authorities.
