The Social Democratic Party (SDP) has expelled former Kaduna State Governor, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, placing a 30-year ban on him from engaging in any of its activities.
This was contained in a statement issued on Monday in Abuja by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Araba Aiyenigba.

The party accused El-Rufai of impersonating a member, forging documents, and attempting to destabilize the SDP through what it described as unconstitutional and deceptive political moves.
Following an internal investigation by the National Working Committee (NWC), the party concluded that El-Rufai was never officially registered as a member in Kaduna State, despite publicly claiming so.
The NWC further alleged that El-Rufai had aligned himself with the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and tried to drag the SDP into an unauthorized political coalition, a move it said was against the party’s values and internal agreements.
Based on these findings, the SDP declared El-Rufai persona non grata and imposed a 30-year ban on him from participating in any party-related activities.
The party also called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and other relevant authorities to disregard any claims by El-Rufai in relation to the SDP, as he has no legal or official standing in the party.
El-Rufai had recently resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC), citing a widening gap between his personal values and the direction of the ruling party. He thereafter claimed to have joined the SDP.
