Speaking at a press conference in Kaduna on Friday, Alhaji Idris Inuwa, the Assistant National Secretary for the North-West zone, also refuted reports that the party’s State Working Committee had been dissolved. He alleged that some individuals were attempting to take control of the party unlawfully.
Inuwa maintained that the Kaduna State Executive Committee was elected through a legitimate state congress, in line with the party’s constitution and the wishes of its members. He insisted that the committee’s four-year mandate remains valid and any attempt to dissolve it without due process would be unconstitutional and a threat to internal democracy.
He further explained that the party’s constitution provides clear procedures for dissolving a State Executive Committee, including investigations, committee formation, and fair hearings. However, none of these processes were followed before an unauthorized dissolution letter was issued.
Rejecting the formation of a caretaker committee under a single individual, Inuwa asserted that such a move had no legal backing and was therefore null and void. While acknowledging the increasing interest in SDP, he stressed that new members must follow the required procedures to be recognized, assuring that the party remains open to those willing to abide by its guidelines.
El-Rufai resigned from the APC on March 10, 2025, citing the party’s deviation from its founding principles and lack of internal democracy. He announced his move to the SDP, stating that the party aligned better with his vision for governance and national development.
