Speaking on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics, Ehie stated that the bribe attempt occurred in early October 2023 while he was serving as the majority leader of the Rivers State House of Assembly. He further alleged that he possesses evidence of the offer, which he has printed and shared for safety reasons.
Meanwhile, Ehie has denied accusations linking him to the October 30, 2023, bombing of the Rivers State Assembly complex. The allegation was made by former Head of Service in the state, George Nwaeke, who claimed Ehie received a bag of money at the Government House to execute the act. However, Nwaeke admitted he was unaware of the amount contained in the bag. Dismissing the claim, Ehie described it as politically motivated.
The situation led to President Bola Tinubu declaring a state of emergency in the state on March 18, suspending both the governor and his deputy. Following this, the state’s sole administrator, Ibok-Ete Ibas, announced the suspension of all political officeholders on March 26.
