Retired police officers on Monday staged a protest at the National Assembly gate in Abuja, calling for their removal from the Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS).

Despite a downpour, the elderly ex-officers marched peacefully with placards and solidarity songs, expressing frustration over what they described as an unfair pension arrangement.

The protesters, many in their 60s and 70s, said the CPS has subjected them to economic hardship after years of dedicated service to the country. They maintained that the scheme fails to provide the financial security they expected in retirement.

Led by retired Chief Superintendent of Police Manir Lawal, the group criticized the pension structure as exploitative and demanded urgent government intervention. They said their demand to exit the CPS was a rightful call for improved welfare and dignity in old age.

The retirees vowed to remain at the protest site until the National Assembly leadership responds to their concerns. Security operatives were deployed to monitor the situation and ensure order was maintained throughout the demonstration.
