The Presidency has issued an apology following public criticism over a list of President Bola Tinubu’s appointments, which many described as lopsided and lacking regional balance.

The list, which was meant to dispel claims of ethnic bias in federal appointments, sparked fresh outrage for appearing to favour the South West and North West regions while marginalising others, especially the South East.
Sunday Dare, Special Adviser to the President on Media and Public Communication, tendered the apology in a post on X (formerly Twitter) on Thursday. He wrote, “We have noticed a number of errors in the list of appointments tweeted. We are sorry. We will provide an updated list later. Thank you.”
The list released by the Presidency showed the North West had 35 appointees, the South West had 29, North Central had 25, the North East had 24, the South-South had 22, and the South East had 16. Additionally, the list omitted prominent names, including the President’s Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila, who hails from the South West.
Senator Ali Ndume, a lawmaker from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), accused the President of favouring his own ethnic group in the appointments.
The Presidency has assured Nigerians that an updated and corrected list will be released to reflect a more balanced representation.
