Abdullahi, who was serving in Minna, the state capital, was arrested on December 15, 2025, following accusations that he was supplying weapons and ammunition to terrorists operating within the state.

Confirming the incident, the Niger State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Wasiu Abiodun, said the officer died on December 16, 2025, during the course of an ongoing investigation.

According to Abiodun, an audit of the police arms store was being carried out to account for missing rifles and ammunition when the incident occurred. He disclosed that the officer allegedly shot himself with a firearm, resulting in his death.

The police spokesperson further revealed that officers assigned to guard the suspect have been arrested for negligence, citing their failure to prevent the incident while he was in custody.

Abiodun added that investigations are continuing to establish all the circumstances surrounding the case.

Police sources also disclosed that the deceased officer, who was in charge of the arms store, was suspected of supplying weapons and ammunition to terrorists through an accomplice within Niger State.
