The Akwa Ibom State Police Command says it has recorded 23 convictions for various criminal offences between January and July 2025, reflecting a major breakthrough in its efforts to curb crime across the state.

According to a statement signed by the Command’s spokesperson, DSP Timfon John, the convictions range from two weeks to three years in prison and involved offences such as stealing, assault, burglary, felony, and escape from lawful custody.

All cases, the statement noted, were processed through proper legal channels, with arrests, investigations, and trials conducted in line with the constitution and professional standards.

The Command said its efforts have led to a noticeable decline in crimes such as burglary, theft, and violent offences in major cities like Uyo, Ikot Ekpene, Oron, and Eket. Many residents, it added, have expressed improved confidence in the Police Force due to increased safety in their communities.

Commissioner of Police, CP Baba Mohammed Azare, who assumed office in late 2024, was credited with initiating several reforms aimed at improving policing in the state. These include enhanced community policing, quicker response systems, officer retraining, and direct field supervision.

CP Azare praised his officers for their dedication and pledged that exceptional performance would be rewarded. He also extended appreciation to the judiciary and the Ministry of Justice for their continued support.

The Command reaffirmed its commitment to building on the progress made so far through intelligence-led operations, regular patrols, and public awareness campaigns.

With the 23 convictions, the police say they are not only securing arrests but also delivering justice, thereby strengthening public trust and laying a solid foundation for lasting peace.
