Muhuyi Magaji Rimingado, the former chairman of Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission, has been released by the Nigerian Police Force.

He was arrested on Friday at his law office on Zaria Road in Kano by officers from the special squad attached to the office of the Inspector General of Police and was transferred to Abuja.

In an interview on Saturday with SolaceBase, Muhuyi said he is required to return on Monday to complete his bail formalities.

Authorities told Rimingado that there are two petitions against him. The first was filed by former Kano governor and ex APC national chairman Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, who accuses him of malicious prosecution involving the state’s equity in Dala Inland Dry Port, alleging that Rimingado and his sons diverted or converted those assets. The second petition was lodged by Bala Inuwa, former managing director of the Kano State Agricultural Company KASCO, who claims that properties seized under court order were disposed of improperly under Rimingado’s watch.

Both the KASCO case and the Dala Inland Dry Port equity matter are currently before competent courts.

Earlier in 2025, a High Court in Kano issued an interim injunction restraining the Nigerian Police Force, its senior officers, and related agents from arresting or harassing him, a decision meant to protect his fundamental rights pending certain legal processes.

Despite that injunction, his arrest last week, allegedly carried out by heavily armed police operatives who reportedly did not present a warrant, sparked strong reactions. The state government, through its Attorney General, condemned the operation as a violation of constitutional guarantees to personal liberty, fair hearing, and due process.

A leading civil society group, HEDA Resource Centre, described the arrest as part of a recurring pattern of intimidation against bold anti-corruption actors, arguing that the move reflects politicisation of federal security agencies with the effect of undermining accountability efforts in Kano State.
