SP Nelson Okpabi, the Zonal Police Public Relations Officer, confirmed the incident in a statement on Tuesday, highlighting the officers’ alleged involvement in corrupt practices and unprofessional conduct.

“The Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Zone 6 headquarters Calabar, AIG Jonathan Towuru, has expressed disapproval of the unprofessional conduct exhibited by some police officers accused of abducting and fraudulently extorting N3,000,000 from an individual last week,” Okpabi stated.

He further elaborated, “The AIG has ordered a thorough investigation into the matter to uncover the truth behind the allegations and to facilitate appropriate disciplinary actions.”

According to Okpabi, the police officers have been detained while investigations are ongoing. He emphasized that AIG Towuru is committed to ensuring that stringent disciplinary measures are applied to the culpable officers as a deterrent to others.

The incident has sparked concerns about police misconduct and underscores ongoing efforts within the force to maintain professionalism and accountability in law enforcement practices.
