The Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, who ordered the probe, explained that the move was part of efforts to ensure accountability within the command. The case also prompted the transfer of 23 officers from their duty posts to guarantee transparency and impartiality in the process.
Those being investigated include a serving police officer, a member of the Police Special Constabulary, and an individual from a local vigilante group who had been assisting the division. While evidence presented by the complainant was described as “insufficient and uncorroborated,” the command said counter-allegations of drug dealing against the complainant also remain unsubstantiated.
To avoid any interference in the probe, the implicated officer and 22 colleagues were redeployed, while the constabulary member was dismissed from duty. The vigilante assistant has also been disengaged pending the outcome of the investigation.
According to CP Bakori, the exercise is aimed at strengthening public confidence in the police. He stressed that the command remains committed to conducting a thorough and impartial investigation, assuring that anyone found guilty will face appropriate disciplinary measures.
The police urged members of the public to remain patient and to support the investigation by sharing credible information that could aid the process.
