The Kano State Police Command has successfully arrested six suspects and recovered three stolen tricycles and five motorcycles in coordinated operations that targeted vehicle theft across the state.

The development was confirmed on Monday in a statement signed by SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, the Police Public Relations Officer. According to the statement, on 14th October 2025, two suspected tricycle thieves, Nura Ibrahim, 44, from Gaskiya Layout, Zaria, Kaduna State, and Sunusi Bala, 22, from Gusau, Zamfara State, were apprehended by a mob along Airport Road, Kano, while attempting to steal a tricycle. The suspects were rescued by police and taken to Murtala Mohammed Specialist Hospital for treatment.

Investigations revealed the pair had lured a tricycle rider using adulterated intoxicants to steal the vehicle. The suspects were linked to the theft of five other tricycles. Acting on the directive of Commissioner of Police Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, the police recovered two additional stolen tricycles in Funtua Local Government Area, Katsina State, and arrested two accomplices, Bashir Muhd, 46, and Sunusi Musa, 48.

In a separate operation targeting motorcycle theft along Kano Wudil Road, the police arrested Umar Isah, 34, on 10th October in Na’ibawa Quarters, recovering three stolen motorcycles. Another arrest occurred on 15th October when Idris Isyaku, 28, was caught at Na’ibawa Flyover with two suspected stolen motorcycles. Both suspects admitted involvement in the purchase and distribution of stolen motorcycles.

Recovered vehicles include a yellow TVS tricycle, a yellow Bajaj tricycle with registration KKU 706 QA, another Bajaj tricycle with registration FTA 757, and five motorcycles, some with registration numbers KRY 132 QB, GWL 411 QF, BLD 921 WD, and others without registration numbers.

The police are urging anyone who has lost a tricycle or motorcycle or can identify any of the recovered vehicles to contact the investigating officers.
