The Kano State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of four individuals linked to the recent unrest at the Kofar Kudu residence of the 16th Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II.

The incident, which occurred on Sunday, involved an attempt by youths suspected to be supporters of the 15th Emir, Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero, to forcefully access the palace. The assailants reportedly vandalized the main gate, injured palace guards, and damaged police vehicles stationed at the location.

Spokesperson of the command, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, disclosed the arrests on Tuesday, adding that the suspects are currently under investigation. He noted that the Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, has constituted a special panel to probe the incident and identify all those involved in the breach of public peace.

According to reports, the altercation erupted as Bayero’s convoy was returning from a condolence visit to the family of the late Alhaji Aminu Dantata. Instead of following the conventional Koki-Nassarawa route, the entourage passed near Gidan Dabo and approached the palace of Emir Sanusi II at Gidan Rumfa where the clash reportedly occurred.

The police have assured residents that calm has been restored, but investigations are ongoing and more arrests are expected. Authorities have also urged members of the public to remain peaceful and cooperate with law enforcement to prevent further escalation of tension surrounding the Kano Emirate.
