Police arrest armed robbery suspects, recover illicit drugs worth over N42m in Kano

The Kano State Police Command has announced the arrest of suspected armed robbers and the recovery of illicit drugs and intoxicants valued at more than N42 million.

According to a statement issued on Thursday by the Command’s spokesperson, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, the suspects were arrested in connection with a robbery that took place on September 14, 2025, at Tokarawa Quarters in Kano. During the incident, armed men broke into a residence and stole a Mercedes Benz GLK worth N26.5 million, along with mobile phones and other valuables.

Those arrested were identified as 20-year-old Nura Sani from Bauchi State and 35-year-old Ibrahim Lawan from Katsina State.

In another operation, operatives recovered 540 packets of suspected Pregabalin capsules worth N40.5 million at Jalli Village in Dawakin Tofa Local Government Area.

Similarly, on September 30, 2025, police surveillance officers intercepted two men, identified as Alhaji Isyaku Babayo of K/Mazugal and Mohammed Ahmed of Dorayi Babba, at Dangauro Trailer Park. They were found with seven bags of a liquid substance known as “Akuskura,” containing 2,450 bottles valued at N2.45 million.

The police said the confiscated items, along with other seized drugs valued at more than N120 million, have been handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Kano for further investigation.

Commissioner of Police, CP I. A. Bakori, praised the officers for their bravery and assured residents that efforts are ongoing to track down other accomplices and recover remaining stolen property. He also urged the public to continue cooperating with security agencies to ensure the state’s safety.
